Outdoor Wi-Fi - Used two of these to add WI-FI range to a 4 acre property for security cameras and it works great with the rest of my AI mesh setup with deticated cat5e burried cable to one unit far away from the house and 5ghz wireless on the exterior of the house

Customer reviews
Write a reviewAsus outdoor router - I used many router for outside place but always have a problems, this one is the best I used in my life. Good rate,
Works great, when it works - These are amazing, easily managed with the ASUS app connected to your main AIMESH router and are packed full of features and strong, dependable signal. They will automatically determine best route and daisy-chain themselves seamlessly. However, they can suddenly die and be defective with no rhyme or reason. I had one die after just 1 or 2 months, and a router die just before warranty expired. Aall of my tech is protected by high end UPS units. Fortunately they were both still under warranty but that requires you to ship it to ASUS for repair/replacement. My experience with ASUS network equipment is that when it works it works great, when it still powers on but has sporadic issues ,it's probably going bad so get a warranty claim in before it's too late. Highly recommended but only if you can rationalize the high end functionality being worth considering them as expendable consumables.
Great Range - I have a wifi enanled pool pump controller ablut 50 ft away from the house that often lost connection. After installing this extender at fhe edge of the patio (40 ft away from pool controller) no more diaconnections in over 2 weeks. So far so good!
Not for me - I have a BE30000 and that product is amazing. This, however, sucked. My security cameras would drop a great deal and I guess since it was connecting MLO from the BE30000 and not hard wired, it would drop them. The cameras were extremely close to the BD5 Outdoor and the BD5 not too far from the BE30000. Think I was between -50 and -60 for the most part. Bottom line, I had to connect my cameras to the inside BE30000 and this just got rained on.
Great investment for outdoor Wi-Fi coverage - Great router than seamless integrates with my Asus AiMesh consisting of Asus GT-BE98 Pro main node and Asus RT-BE 96U x 2 satellite nodes. Total 4 satellite nodes including this ZenWi-Fi BD5 BE5000. I can now place my Sonos Portable outdoor speaker’s anywhere in my yard without dropping the Wi-Fi connection. Works great to have the same tunes playing inside and outside for cook outs and general entertainment. A wired backhaul is best to allow the full range coverage of both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands. All mounting hardware is included. Not sure how well this router would integrate with another brand router as an access point. Highly recommend this router if you alrady have an Asus AiMesh router installed.
Exactly what I needed - An Outdoor Router / AP - This is the 2nd one purchased, use it part of the ASUS AI mesh network at my dad's property. Wifi is critical at his property since cell phone service is marginal at best and he uses WifI for Wifi calling. Have one setup on the outside of the barn that covers the pond area and can get strong signal quite a long ways away (250 - 300 feet outdoors) connected to the main router via Ethernet.
Good mesh node - I like this item. Decent range so far its doing good
A must add if you have other zenwifi devices. - If you want better wifi in your yard and you have already invested in the asus wifi ecosystem this is a great product.
AI Mesh Ethernet backhaul not working - I have an up and running network consisting of a ZenWifi BT10 router and a ZenWifi BT10 AI Mesh node using Ethernet back haul. I purchased this router to use as an AI Mesh node on my deck at the back of my house to increase my networks signal\range. I ran Cat 6 Ethernet cable and used a POE injector to power this unit. Initial setup was a little tedious but after the third try I was up and running as an AI Mesh node using Ethernet back haul as verified with the ASUS App on my cell phone and the web interface on my PC. After the initial install I would check the status every day or two to see if my TV and FireTV Cube were actually connecting to this device or my ZenWifi BT10 mesh node, it was. Everything was working great. Around the 1st of November I checked my network through through my PC and router. The BD5 was offline. I checked it and noticed a red led blinking on the front. I brought the BD5 inside, did a reset and tried the setup process again. MULTIPLE TIMES. The only way I could get this thing back online was with wireless back haul. Once it was back up and running I changed the settings in my main router (ZenWifi BT10) to Ethernet back haul and that brought down the BD5 again. The only way to bring this back was doing a reset and going through the configuration process again using wireless back haul. Right now I`m using this as an access point but probably not for long as I don`t want another SSID added to my network. It appears that a firmware update was pushed down on the 27th of October for this unit. I noticed the first offline event on November 1st which was a week after my last network check. I may go back to wireless back haul but more than likely I will do a complete reset and donate this to Goodwill and let someone else experience the same frustration as I have.
Perfect choice for home - The speed of my service has been greatly enhanced by this product.
Could not connect all IoT devices - I purchased this access point to give my IoT devices a bit more signal. However, this thing totally ignores half of my IoT devices and those devices can only pick up the signal from the main router. After all the factory resets, SSID creation, firmware updates, along with many other steps. I still can't get half of my devices to connect. Making this access point totally useless to me.
great for extending iot network - I bought this as an extension to my ASUS Zenwifi mesh system, specifically as an extension for my iot network in my garage. Works well in that role.
Great Plug and Play Extender - Typically I'm a Netgear shopper, but bought the ASUS gaming router for neighborhood HOA Pool and added this extender. Completely plug and play to create Mesh and a seamless experience. Great coverage, very impressed with the coverage.
Easy set up - I love the router. I hate Spectrum for having a modem which blocks traffic to a 3rd party router.
Excellent choice for outdoor coverage - Works better than expected. Covers my 2 acer property perfectly! Used as a node from my AX86U with outdoor cat 6 has backhaul. Will be adding a 2nd inside my shop soon!
