WD – easystore 8TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive – Black

Better to have one - This is my second external HDD first disk just could not work so had to purchase desktop HDD. Luckily my friend could retrieve data from Passport drive from Linux serverand stored in this. Hoping to work this better.

Fast and easy set up - Love it! Made putting files in one space easy. Had to consolidate files on several laptops. Now I have a great portable backup

Standard External Drive - Its a standard external drive that looks great on a desk and there is not much more to it. No issues since I received it.

Good Huge Storage device for BU/NAS - Huge storage for multiple devices if connected in comprehensive Network layout. I use as secondary Storage for my NAS of similar size. While the interface works in universal environment, getting similar one in USB-C 400 or 800 would work best in Apple setup.

This one is even better than the MyBook - I love everything about it. It's sleek, black, reliable, and chock full of storage capabilities. Just like me and my aged brain. 10/10. Plug and Play Eazy Peazy - This external hard drive was so easy to install my 6 year old granddaughter could have set it up! It definitely exceeded my expectations!! Quiet and reliable external hard disk - I bought this version of Western Digital external drive to use as a Linux network attached storage (NAS) device using an Intel NUC (those tiny computer boxes) running Debian, so I didn't buy this for the software that comes bundled with the drive. This drive does not have a power button like other Western Digital external drives sold elsewhere which is exactly what you want for a system that should power back up after a power outage. Before putting the unit into use, I used the WD Windows utilities to configure the drive to go to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity (it turns out that's the default). There are people who will tell you that hard drives don't last as long if they are always powering up and down. I have been doing the 30 minutes to sleep thing for years on my NAS drives simply last forever and use a lot less power when nobody is accessing them. If you want the drive to never turn off or sleep after a longer period of inactivity, you can change the setting before you put the drive into use. The unit is remarkably quiet and having used WD drives for years, I don't think I have ever had one fail. They are also great for off site backups.

Hard Drive Review - It’s really work good and life saving for data storage

Died on me 2 days ago. - Unfortunately, this hard drive died on me two days ago. Ironically, it died the day I was going to back up my computer data. It was not the enclosure housing nor the cable, but the drive itself. Because the drive had sensitive customer data on it, I did not want to let the drive out of my site. I was able to successfully destroy the drive, and I will not be buying the Easy Store model going forward.
