Very Roomy, Great Airflow despite the look - Makes for an amazing 8xHDD 2x Sata SSD and 4x Nvme M.2 SSD Server depending on your Motherboard, I put plenty of Noctua 140mm Industrial 3,000 RPM fans in it and Cooler Master Metal Blade from dual fans in it and its amazing, HDD temps stay below 30 degrees and GPU takes care of itself. HBA Board has a dual Noctua 120 fans on it and regular tower cooler with dual noctua fans. Clean, quiet and powerful. Does more than just server work.

Customer reviews
Write a reviewGreat home for a NAS - The Define R5 was and is one of Fractal's best products (I own their Define C, Meshify C, this R5, the North, and the Terra). It has been almost a decade now since the compact Define series ditched the 5.25" bays, and most cases on the market now support only 1-2 3.5" drives. With their newer designs Fractal promises that you can buy parts and accessories like side panels and additional drive cages, but availability is scarce. The R5 has an advantage over its successors here in that it comes from the factory with the 8 3.5" drive sleds installed and all necessary mounting hardware included. And if you get creative, more 3.5" drives can be mounted on the ample floor space or in the ODD mount. This case would be a 5 star affair, but the included fan hub is 3 pin only, which isn't the biggest problem but the spacing of the headers means you can't just attach 4 pin PWM fans and use them in DC mode. Also, my R5 came with a side panel that sticks and is a bit difficult to remove so there is still some QC work to be done more than a decade after release. Overall, the R5 is from a different time in PC building and it shows, both good and bad.
Modern Old School - I'm using this case for a linux server with multiple enterprise drives for network storage and container hosting. The tower looks dressed for the role compared to a mesh or glass gaming tower. It's built to reduce noise while still allowing for great airflow. Top and side panels are customizable for additional fans/airflow.
Perfect for non rack server - Needed a case that supported several 3.5” drives but wasnt a full rack size factor. Also wanted enough space to support a CPU and GPU as well. This case does it perfectly. Able to fit air cooler and GPU and has plenty of space for all my hard drives. Would recommend
Sever case - One of the best case I purchased. I will go with this brand for all my pc builds.
Good Case - Silent, super easy to build, plenty of HDD bays. What more could you ask for?
Well Constructed and Beautiful - This is the best, quietest and most elegantly beautiful case that I've ever owned. It's inspired me to upgrade the rest of my office to match it.
Silent and simple - Pre installed wires to case are well organized, makes for seemless installation. Case also helps mitigate any fan noise
Amazing Case for Home Servers - An amazing case. Big, modular, great airflow, and has 8 3.5in HDD bays. Amazing! This is a very popular case for home server owners. It was recommended to me, and I would always recommend this to others. Very reasonably priced too.
Fractal Design Define R5 ATX Mid-Tower Case - A very nice, well made case. One of the few that provides for 5.25" drives like optical drives. The case is a little wider than most but that makes it very roomy to work in. It comes with two preinstalled fans and has locations for 6 more or 4 different water cooling options. it has drive bays for up to 7 drives in addition to the two 5.25" bays. It has a reasonably well written user guide and lots of screws and hardware for the various components like hard drives.
The best case ever. - One of the best cases ever made. I have built many PC's and this thing is a builders dream. I have other fractal cases but this is the best.I bought this to house my home server build and really wish i had discovered it a few builds ago. It is sooooo quite. You only know its on because of the power button. No temp issues. Massive amount of room for drives. Absolutely love it.
Fantastic Case! - I purchased this case for use with a home server due to the inclided 8 HDD bays. I have always had a great experience wirh Fractal Design cases and this is no exception. Excellent build quality and runs very cool and quiet.
Room To Grow - This case is solid ... I love that it can hold 8 3.5 inch hard drives.
Super Quiet Case - Love the case. I am not a fan of all the RGB lights within PCs these days. This was a perfect case: - Sleek design - Very quiet even with fans running - A lot of bays for expanding storage
Simplicity is difficult - Let's get one thing out of the way. This is not your rgb flashing strobe light case, this is not made to satisfy hardcore gamer aesthetic. However, it is silent, understated, and has every feature many modern cases are missing. That is, a full set of drive racks, optical drive bay, and silent fans, cable management, noise dampening... If you are the target client for this I think you already know
