Overview
- Characters and Imperial Succession
Join forces with characters from over 30 different classes featuring a wide variety of professions and races, each with their own favored weapons, unique abilities, and effective tactics. Choose the next Emperor from this wide pool of candidates, each eligible to inherit the throne and become the next protagonist. - Free-Form Scenario
The game presents a unique story structure that offers a vast array of narrative experiences in response to your choices and which objectives you tackle first—from how you expand the Empire to what order you challenge the Seven Heroes. Your actions and decisions will dramatically alter the course of the Emperor’s journey. - Combat
The strategic turn-based battle system of the original has been further enhanced to a timeline system. Enjoy all the classic SaGa mechanics like “Glimmers,” where you learn new abilities whilst in the heat of battle, and “Formations,” which provide unique benefits to the retinue based on composition. Furthermore, the remake welcomes the new “United Attack” feature to perform combination attacks with your retinue members to turn the tide of battle! - Graphics
The original 2D pixel sprites are now modeled in full 3D while retaining their charming, familiar appearances based on the beautiful concept illustrations by Tomomi Kobayashi. All towns and dungeons are now also fully rendered with reworked terrains and layouts. - Difficulty Settings
Select from one of three difficulty levels to match your preferred playstyle, from Casual, Normal, to Hard (Classic). Casual offers a story-focused experience with less emphasis on battle, while Normal is recommended for veteran RPG players looking for a balanced game. Hard (Classic) is perfect for players looking for the brutal but satisfying challenge of the original 1993 version. - Music & Voices
Kenji Ito returns to present a beautiful soundtrack full of new arrangements! The music can be toggled between the original and new versions from the Options screen. Furthermore, all event scenes now feature full Japanese and English voice acting. - Pre-order

Customer reviews
Write a reviewFun game - Played for a while, had no issues while playing it.
Great JRPG - If you like JRPGs you’ll like this game, fun and has a unique emperor system. You have enemies that spend multiple generations and you pick your own emperor with their own abilities and skills that most get passed down from previous emperors. Tip - try to keep Gerald as your emperor as long as possible.
Interesting gs.e - Whooooa, interesting gsme and story line, if your unto rpg, but mostly am just a single asian dude looking for a girlfriend. I like these fantasy games because people are nice, and kind. Real life is filled with nasty, cruel woman that try to do "emotional damage". Lol ugh. Nice vacation from real life.
Interesting RPG Take - I really like this game! It is a fun twist on the genre and I recommend it.
Great for the collectors. - Romancing Saga is a niche game in niche genre. Its like studying alchemy when you’re trying to get a chemistry degree. Is there a lot of fun to be had? Yes! Is it needlessly convoluted? Also yes!
Didn't hold my attention for long - I'm playing the switch 2 version of this game, but I bought the switch 1 version, so I can't comment on switch 1 performance. The game itself is decent, but I'll admit it didn't hold my attention for long. The story is generic, and I don't like the fact that the main gimmick of this game is pretty much perma death and that the characters you start off with is not the characters you end with. Kinda makes me detached to the characters Also, the motion blur is horrible.
Classic JRPG That Is A Must Play - Excellent JRPG. I thoroughly enjoyed it all the way through. My only disappointment with the game is that you can miss a lot of big side quests if you finish the main missions in the arcs. The game doesn't tell you either if it's part of the main arc or not, so I missed out on 2-3 different stories that were happening.
RPG Sweetness - With the Switch 2 enhancements, this game looks and runs extremely well. The RPG itself is a hidden gem in my opinion.
Quality of life features uplift old-school play - Wonderful remake of a lesser-known Square RPG. I was initially intimidated by the mechanics (death of a party member or a 'time jump' makes you choose a successor to that role or party), but I quickly grew to love it. Death is intentional, even beneficial, because you still retain the skills, items, and progress of your predecessors. So in essence, you continue onward, strengthening yourself and your parties with generational knowledge, abilities, and story progress. Yes, it is worth spending the extra $10 on the eShop for the Switch 2 upgrade IMO. Smoother framerate and sharper graphics really round the game out on the system. Definitely recommended!
Fantastic game - One of the best jrpgs out there with a welcomed unique leveling system. The switch 2 upgrade is a must buy.
Delightfully old school JRPG with some QoL updates - If you're looking for and old-school JRPG, but with some modern improvements, this one fits the bill. Story isn't the highpoint, but the variety in classes and the inheritance system make this one stand out.
Great Game - I love this RPG. The story is great and keeps me wanting more.
Niiiiiice - Fun game and they just put out a switch 2 update!!
Great game - This is a remarkable remake of a classic JRPG. And as a bonus if you have a Switch 2 the upgrade is free with the Switch one cart.
Buy it - Great game and great remak highly recommend to any fans of square enix or rpgs.
Ages 13 and older!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Success in sales!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing remaster - Nostalgic masterpiece. The quality is amazing and it was such an enjoyment to play.
Love it - Love this game! So much content and Best Buy has the best price. I am 64 hours in and I still have time left! Haha
Decent Game, great story - Story pretty good! Characters were somewhat lacking in personality during the gameplay.
Classic game new twist - Great game reminds me of the classics. Would suggest this to anyone who like old school RPGs.
